Monolithic Backplanes [CompactPCI] |
|
Monolithic backplanes are designed to offer the greatest
flexibility for applications requiring high slot count in 3U or 6U
form factors.
These backplanes are offered with various loading options to
better respect the user's application and budget.
Many of these boards will support generic and specific
CompactPCI host CPU modules. Most of these specific host CPU
modules have special peripheral pinout on their user I/O
connectors. PixStream has design and manufactured
backplanes that support components such as Ziatech, RadiSys
and Teknor host CPU and peripheral modules.
To obtain the high slot count, monolithic backplanes use front
and rear mounted CompactPCI bridges.
These backplanes use the PS1100, PS1101, PS111X and
PS112X bridges.
The power source for monolithic backplanes can be internal or
external.
Many of the new generation backplanes are using plug-in
power supply modules at the expense of lost CompactPCI slots.
When using external power sources, these backplanes use
ATX or MTA style connectors.
The plug-in modules typically use the Positronic or the DIN
Type M connector.
